Archies Thongs
Shellharbour Podiatry are now stockists for Archies Thongs
Shellharbour Podiatry is pleased to announce that we have partnered with Archies to become Archies thongs stockists! We now have a variety of sizes and colours at our Shellharbour clinic. As podiatrists we generally recommend against wearing thongs for 3 main reasons:
- Thongs have no arch support
- Thongs are flat (the heel sits at the same height as the forefoot
- Thongs require clawing of the toes in order for them to stay on while walking
Archies have managed to come up with an orthopaedic design that addresses these three points. While they don’t provide as much support as a good quality shoe, they are a huge improvement on standard thongs and are our favourite orthopaedic thong currently available.

Benefits of Archies Footwear
Arch support that helps to ease sore feet
Archies thongs are raised at the medial (inside) arch to provide superior arch support. This is comparable to the support provided by a soft off-the-shelf orthotic. By supporting the arch, Archies promote biomechanical function by easing the stress and strain that would otherwise be the cause of sore and tired feet.
Elevated heel – important if you suffer from plantar fasciitis.
All good running / walking shoes have an elevated heel relative to the forefoot, a feature that Archies has wisely chosen to incorporate into their design. For those suffering with plantar fasciitis or Achilles tendonitis, this feature is highly desirable as it can reduce mechanical load in these structures and therefore reduce symptoms! Orthopaedic thongs play an important role in heel pain and plantar fasciitis treatment as they allow substantial support while not wearing shoes / orthotics at home and around the house.
Tight strap – no grabbing with the toes
Run-of-the-mill thongs require well timed clawing of the toes so that they stay on your foot and don’t fly away mid-step! This can add to fatigue in the feet through overuse of small muscles and tendons within the foot. Archies have designed the strap to be a little tighter so that your foot doesn’t have to work so hard to keep them on, much like an orthotic sandal without the strap at the back!
