Diabetes foot care
Regular checks help prevent serious foot problems
Diabetes can reduce feeling and blood flow in the feet, so a small blister, crack or pressure area can become a wound without you noticing. Regular foot checks and early care help reduce that risk.
Everyone with diabetes should have their feet checked at least once a year. Your check gives you a foot risk level, which guides how often you need to be seen: from yearly at low risk to every one to three months at high risk.
Your GP may refer you for podiatry under a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan if you are eligible. Eligible patients may access Medicare benefits for up to five individual allied health services per calendar year, shared across eligible allied health providers. Eligibility and benefit rules apply. We provide reports to the referring GP as required.
Contact us or your GP the same day if you notice a new wound, redness, swelling, warmth or a change in colour in your foot.
