About this service

Sports injury rehabilitation

Sports injuries, cause by cause

Our podiatrists at Shellharbour Village and Shellharbour City see runners, walkers, juniors and weekend players. We start by finding out why the injury happened, because that decides how we treat it. At Shellharbour Village, Zebris gait analysis measures the pressure under every step as you walk or run.

  • Too much, too soon: a jump in training is behind many tendon and bone stress injuries. We adjust your load and build strength so you can keep training.
  • Footwear: worn-out or unsuitable shoes can add to heel, shin and forefoot pain. We check yours and advise for your sport.
  • How you move: a running assessment shows how you load your feet and legs. Our article on what a running assessment involves explains it.
  • Foot posture: where it is part of the problem, orthotics made from a 3D foot scan may help.

For persistent tendon pain, shockwave therapy may be added, and our Shellharbour City clinic offers HIRO TT laser as an adjunct to rehab.

Frequently asked questions about Sports injury rehabilitation

Should I keep training?

Usually yes, at a level your body tolerates. We help you adjust your sessions rather than stop altogether, and build back up step by step.

Do you see junior athletes?

Yes. We see children and teenagers for sports injuries and footwear advice. See our children’s podiatry page.

Which clinic should I book?

Either. Book at Shellharbour Village or Shellharbour City, whichever is easier. For HIRO TT laser, book at Shellharbour City.

Do I need a referral?

No. Book online or by phone at either clinic. If you have private health insurance with extras cover, check what your fund pays for podiatry.

Could HIRO TT be relevant?

For selected persistent tendon, muscle or joint symptoms after injury, the Shellharbour City team can discuss whether HIRO TT high-intensity laser has a reasonable role within a broader rehabilitation plan.

Suitability, evidence and individual response vary. Assessment comes first, and laser would be an adjunct rather than a stand-alone replacement for diagnosis, load management, exercise or other appropriate care.
