About this service

Zebris gait analysis

See how you walk, measured step by step

How you walk and run affects your feet, ankles, knees and hips. Watching you move tells a podiatrist a lot, but it can’t show how much pressure goes through each part of your foot, or how evenly you load your left and right sides. Zebris gait analysis measures it. It’s available at our Shellharbour Village clinic and is part of every biomechanical assessment.

How it works

You walk on a treadmill with a pressure-sensing plate built in under the belt, and if you run, we can look at your running too. The plate records the pressure under your feet with every step while a camera films you walking. The Zebris software lines the two up, so your podiatrist can see what each foot is doing at every point of your stride.

What we measure

  • Where pressure peaks under your heel, arch and forefoot
  • Step length, step width and cadence (steps per minute)
  • How long each foot stays on the ground, and how your left and right sides compare
  • The path your weight takes as it rolls through each foot
  • How your walking or running changes with speed

Using your results

Your podiatrist goes through the results with you on screen and explains what they mean for your pain or your goals. They help guide your treatment plan, footwear advice and, if you need them, custom orthotics. Repeating the analysis later lets you both see how things have changed.

Booking

Zebris gait analysis is included in your biomechanical assessment at our Shellharbour Village clinic, so there’s nothing extra to book. Wear shorts or loose pants that roll up above the knee, and bring the shoes you usually walk or run in, plus any orthotics you already have.
